Ever wondered why some people thrive on a diet that causes health problems for another? Why do some people feel heavy and sluggish on animal protein, while others feel like they’re starving without it? Why can some people lose weight on a low calorie diet, while others struggle?
We are as different on the inside as we are on the outside. Like our fingerprints, our nutritional requirements are unique from person to person. Metabolic Typing allows you to identify your own highly individualized nutritional needs.
What is Metabolic Typing? Metabolic Typing is extraordinary nutrition technology for optimizing health, wellness and performance. Based on the combined efforts of some of this century’s leading researchers in nutrition and biochemical individuality, and 30+ years of clinical experience, Metabolic Tying provides you with a comprehensive nutritional plan for your individual dietary needs. No fads or gimmicks, you simply learn how to eat right for your body and optimize your health.
Why Metabolic Typing Today there is intense controversy over what constitutes a healthy diet with experts in the field recommending dramatically apposing (one-size-fits-all) diets:
Which approach is best? It depends on your metabolic type.
Metabolic Typing is systematic, testable, and verifiable methodology based on research and clinical application for the past 30+ years. Wisdom from ancient systems of medicine, modern scientific understanding of physiology and biochemistry and biochemical individuality research are compiled within the Healthexcel system to help individuals establish their personal metabolic type. You can benefit from this system to identify your metabolic type. Then you’ll know how to select just the right “body fuel,” – foods, food combinations and nutrients that will enable your body to function at peak efficiency.

How Does Metabolic Typing Work?
Metabolic Typing examines your physical traits, psychological traits and your body’s homeostatic system responses to diet, to identify which foods, food combinations and supplements are best for you.
To understand why metabolic typing works it helps to understand the two principles of evolution and adaptation. Over a period of thousands of years our ancestors developed individualized dietary needs in response to many unique aspects of their habitats--geographic location, climate, naturally occurring vegetation and food supply. For example, people from northern regions of the world living in cold harsh climates adapted to a diet of meat and fat to sustain them, while people from tropical regions developed metabolic requirements for much lighter foods such as fruits, grains and vegetables. Adaptation to any diet takes thousands of years.
The research for Metabolic Typing has it’s origins in the work or Weston A. Price, a dentist and researcher from the 1930’s who wanted to understand why indigenous cultures who were not eating the modern “processed” diet were not plagued with certain chronic health conditions, dental decay and poorly formed dental arches. He noted that a wide variety of diets supported good health and strong skeletal structure. His work was profound, leading to a whole body of research in biochemical individuality:
- Francis Pottenger M.D.: Established the Autonomic Nervous System as a basis for biochemical individuality (1919)
- Dr. D.H. Sheldon: The varieties of human physique: endomorph, ectomorph, mesomorph. (1940)
- Dr. Melvin Page & Dr. Henry Bieler: Concepts of endocrine types and their relationship to various foods. (1950)
- Dr. George Watson, author of ‘Nutrition and the Mind’ and the various influences of oxidation (glycolysys, beta oxidation, citric acid cycle) and individualized rates of oxidation: fast, slow, mixed (1950)
- Dr. Roger Williams, author of ‘Biochemical Individuality’ demonstrating individual nutritional needs (1956).
- Dr. Royal Lee: Various articles on nutritional influences on the autonomic and endocrine systems (1950s & 1950s).
- Dr. D’Adamo: Blood types and responses to diet. (1970s)
- Dr. William D. Kelly and Dr. Roger Williams: Beginning stages of metabolic profiling through the use of computerized programs.
- Further efforts to address metabolic individuality can be seen in current works of numerous other pioneers such as: Dr. Elliot Abravanel, Dr. Paul Eck, Dr. David Watts, Dr. Rudolph Wiley, and the insightful founder of Nutri-Spec, Dr. Guy Schenker, to name a few
Today, eating in accordance to our ancestors is complicated. We are now a “melting pot” of mixed heritage with the added complication of individual environment, stressors, lifestyle and stage of life. The key to understanding your nutritional needs lies in understanding your biochemical individuality through Metabolic Typing.
